Box Score

Atlanta, Ga. – Eighth-ranked Georgia Tech scored runs in six of the eight innings in which it took at bats, using a four-run first inning for a second-straight day to jump out to a 5-1 lead through four complete before pulling away for a 16-3 victory over Western Carolina Saturday afternoon in nonconference baseball action at Russ Chandler Stadium.

Sophomore Daylan Nanny belted a solo home run in collecting three of WCU's eight hits, adding a pair of singles to lead the squad in a 3-for-4, two-run effort. The home run was Nanny's fourth of the season – and first since early March against nationally-ranked East Carolina. The Plainfield, Ind., native stretched his active hitting streak to nine consecutive, his longest in a Catamount uniform.

Junior Luke Robinson singled twice in a 2-for-4 showing for a seven-game hitting streak while redshirt senior Matthew Koehler finished 1-for-4 with a sixth-inning single, extending his hitting streak to a career-long 16-straight games. The Raleigh product added his career-best 14th stolen base. Sophomores Justice Bigbie and Immanuel Wilder both singled to round out WCU's eight base hits with Wilder drawing WCU's lone walk of the game. Junior Justin Sparks found his way aboard twice with a pair of HBPs.

The Yellow Jackets (32-14) out-hit WCU 18-to-8 with four extra base hits including three doubles and an eighth-inning pinch hit home run. Nanny's lead-off homer in the sixth inning represented the only extra base hit for the Catamounts, who dropped their fourth-straight game on the season – and it's ninth in the past 11 games.

Catamount starter Chase Walter (5-5) took the loss, allowing eight runs on 10 base hits with four walks and four strikeouts over a five-inning effort. Blake Therrian was tagged for seven runs on six hits and a pair of walks over a two-inning relief effort while Jake Moebius limited the Yellow Jackets to one run on two hits and a walk in tossing the eighth.

Georgia Tech starter Connor Thomas (7-1) struck out five over seven innings, scattering seven hits and limiting the Catamounts to three earned runs. Thomas struck out five with just one walk. Micah Carpenter used four strikeouts in recording the final six outs over the final two frames of one-hit, scoreless relief.

Colin Hall had a career day to lead Georgia Tech, finishing 4-for-4 with three singles and a double and five RBI, scoring twice. Baron Radcliff also went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and four runs scored while Jackson Webb was 3-for-4 on the day.

The nonconference series concludes on Sunday afternoon with first pitch slated for 1:00 pm. The game can be seen on the ACC Network Extra with live streaming audio from the Catamount Sports Network available online at CatamountSports.com.
