Macon, Ga. – Junior Madison Isaacson advanced six spots in the final standings on Tuesday, placing in a team-best 11th-place tie after shooting 1-over par 73 on the final 18 holes to pace Western Carolina at the squad's lone fall semester tournament. WCU came home ninth overall at the Mercer Invitational, finishing with a three-round tally of 966.
For Isaacson (225), consecutive bogeys to open her round on the back nine put her at 2-over to start her final round on Tuesday. However, a pair of birdies sandwiched around a third bogey left her making the turn for home at 1-over par. The Greensboro, N.C., product quickly moved back to even with a birdie on the par-4, 349-yard No. 1 and moved a stroke under par with her fourth birdie of the round with three to play. However, back-to-back bogeys on holes No. 7 and 8 relegated her to 1-over, 73, for the round.
Isaacson charted a team-best nine birdies in the season-opener, tied for the third-most among the tournament field.
Sophomore Victoria Ladd shot 82 on Tuesday to finish in 44th overall at 242. Ladd finished with a team-high 31 pars over the 54-hole tournament and was tied for second in par-5 scoring at 3-under (4.75). Senior Maya White came home 49th with a two-day tally of 245 (84-78-83) with true freshman Vanessa Campos and senior Cameron Wood both posting their best rounds of the event on Tuesday, tying for 52nd with matching scores of 255 to round out WCU's scoring five. Wood birdied twice over the final 18 holes.
Third in the standings after 36 holes, tournament-host Mercer rallied in the final round to claim team championship honors. The Bears posted a final round 286 for a two-day tally of 883, surging past fellow Southern Conference foe, Chattanooga (883), by four strokes. The Mocs entered the day tied with third-place finishing Western Kentucky (893) for the tournament lead. Troy finished fourth with a score of 902 while ETSU (911) slid to fifth-place.
