Catamount Baseball vs. Georgia State Pushed Back to 6 pm

First series meeting between Catamounts and Panthers since 2005

Cullowhee, N.C. – Due to unfavorable early afternoon weather forecasts, the first pitch of Western Carolina's midweek nonconference meeting with Georgia State slated for Wednesday afternoon at Childress Field / Hennon Stadium has been pushed back two hours to 6:00 pm. Keep track of any additional weather-related schedule changes through social media on Twitter using the handle, @Catamounts.

Western Carolina (5-2) looks to bounce back from consecutive losses in tournament action at the Brittain Resorts & Hotels Invitational in Myrtle Beach and Conway, S.C. After matching the program's best start at 5-0 with a 9-2 victory over Big Ten foe, Illinois, last Friday, the Catamounts suffered losses to Kennesaw State (12-0) and Saint Joseph's (9-2).

The Catamounts out-hit the Fighting Illini, 13-to-5, and capitalized on five errors, three hit batters, and a pair of walks to open tournament play with the seven-run victory. In the two losses, WCU pitching issued 16 combined walks despite 12 strikeouts and allowed 21 runs on 23 base hits. Offensively, the Catamounts also struggled to the tune of 13-of-66 (.197) with just two extra-base hits and left a total of 22 runners on base.

Georgia State (4-3) opens a four-game road swing against Southern Conference foes, visiting WCU mid-week before a three-game set against ETSU in Johnson City, Tenn., this weekend. The Panthers have dropped three of their last four games including 2-of-3 to Bryant – who WCU faces March 10-11 – last weekend in Atlanta.

The Catamounts lead the all-time series with Georgia State, 8-6, with Wednesday's match-up representing the first head-to-head match-up since WCU took both ends of a doubleheader back in 2005. The series between the two dates back to 1980 and the Catamounts have won five of the last six meetings since 2003.
