ELON, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis dropped its matchup against Elon 4-0 Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Catamounts were competing without one of its players due to injury, which resulted in a default of singles match No. 6.
TURNING POINT:
The Phoenix took an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles' competition with scores of 6-0, 6-2, 6-2. Despite tight singles matches at the No. 1, 3, 4 spots, early Elon wins at the No. 2 and 5 spots secured the singles point and ultimately the win for the Phoenix.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Elon took singles wins at No. 2 and 5 to solidify their win.
- Carli Deehr and Lauren McCall all pushed their first singles set to a tight 7-5 result in favor of Elon. Their second sets were then cut short and left unfinished.
- Jacy Smith had won the first set had won her first set at 6-4 in No. 1 singles and was tied 3-3 in the second set before the match was halted and left unfinished.
- Singles matches No. 1, 3 and 4 remained unfinished.
- Singles match No. 6 ended in default as Western Carolina didn't field an athlete due to injury.
NOTES:
- Today's doubles match was the first time the pairing of Strickland and Jacy Smith had lost since Feb. 16.

The Catamounts will be back in action on Thursday, Mar. 5 at 2 p.m. as they travel to ETSU to take on the Buccaneers.
