Nadia Marshall Leads Catamounts With 14 Points in Loss to Wofford

Catamounts and Terriers meet against Saturday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Redshirt sophomore guard Nadia Marshall scored a team-high 14 points in Western Carolina's 65-45 loss to Wofford Thursday. The two teams will meet for game two at 2 p.m. Saturday. 
 
Turning Point:
Wofford came out of the gate on fire, outscoring Western Carolina 21-9 in the first quarter, setting a pace the Catamounts could never catch up to. The Terriers shot 50 percent from the field in the first two quarters of the game. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Marshall led the Catamounts with 14 points just missing a double-double with eight rebounds. 
  • After three games without scoring in double figures, and not scoring at all in game two against Samford, redshirt junior Kyla Allison got back to double-figure scoring with 10 points. 
  • Zanoria Cruz and Tembre Moates just missed scoring in double figures with nine points each. Moates also just missed a double-double with eight rebounds. 
  • Niyah Lutz and Jackie Carman each scored 13 points to lead Wofford. 


 Inside the Box Score
  • Down 32-17 at the half, Western Carolina battled back in the third-quarter narrowly outscoring Wofford 16-15. 
  • The Catamounts trimmed the Terrier lead to 11, 31-42, with 38 seconds left in the third but a dagger three-pointer by Lutz halted the Catamounts comeback attempt. 
  • Western Carolina shot 32.1 percent from the field while Wofford hit at a clip of 44.9 percent. 
  • The Terriers scored 27 points off Western Carolina's 21 turnovers. 
  • Western Carolina edged Wofford in rebounds ripping down 36 to the Terriers' 32. However, Wofford got 26 of its rebounds from the defensive end. 
  • Wofford drained seven three-pointers in the game – three in the first quarter. 
  • Wofford went to the free-throw line 19 times hitting 14. WCU was 6-of-11. 
 
 News & Notes
  • The Catamounts extended its three-point streak as a team – WCU has hit at least one three-pointer in 346 straight games dating back to 2009. 
  • Western Carolina has scored under 50 points in the last four games. 
  • Marshall has started in back-to-back games. 
  • Western Carolina has now lost five-straight to Wofford – its longest losing streak in the two programs' 54 meetings. 
  • In her three starts, Marshall has scored in double figures twice and is averaging 10 points per game. 
  • Lauren LaPlant has 149 career three-pointers, ranking fifth in the WCU record books, and needs eight to move into fourth. 
  • Moates is shooting 56 percent from the field ranking sixth in the WCU record books for shooting percentage in the season.
