CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Redshirt senior guard Lauren LaPlant scored a season-high 22 points helping Western Carolina women's basketball collar the SoCon leading Wofford Terriers 65-54 Saturday in the Ramsey Center.
Turning Point:
Western Carolina built a 33-22 lead over Wofford, at the half, and did not allow the Terriers to hit a field goal until 4:06 left in the third quarter. The Terriers were also 1-of-16 from behind the three-point line – hitting its only three-pointer with 27 seconds left in the game.
Individual Leaders
- LaPlant led all scorers with 22 points – hitting all six of the Catamount's three-pointers in the game.
- Zanoria Cruz and Nadia Marshall each had 10 points in the game. Marshall was one rebound, ending the game with nine, from a double-double.
- Kyla Allison had eight points and dished out seven assists – one shy of tying her career-high.
- Jamari McDavid and Jackie Carman each led Wofford with 11 points.

- Leading by as much as 17, 45-28, with 3:07 left in the third quarter, the Catamounts weathered a furious comeback attempt by the Terriers. From the three minutes left into the third until 7:17 left in the fourth, Wofford outscored WCU 16-5.
- Wofford would cut the WCU lead to six two more times, with the last 55-49 with 3:02 left. Tembre Moates made a huge play ripping down an offensive rebound and hitting a lay-up in the paint to push the WCU lead back to 57-49 with 2:41 remaining.
- Cruz all but iced the game when she worked her way to the bucket and hit a shot inside the paint with 30 seconds left to give the Catamounts a 10-point, 61-51 lead.
