Field Events Lead Catamounts at VMI Team Challenge

LEXINGTON, Va. – Western Carolina had two field event wins and 16 top-five finishes on Saturday (1/23) at the indoor season-opening VMI Team Challenge held at the Corps Physical Training Center.

Shon Pratcher picked up two wins, claiming the men's triple jump and men's long jump. Pratcher won the triple jump with an indoor personal-best mark of 13.74 meters (45'1") and claimed the long jump with a leap of 7.21 meters (23'8"). Charles Cooley won the men's pole vault with a height of 4.40 meters (14' 5.25").

Carter Unger finished in second place in the women's pole vault after she cleared a height of 3.50 meters (11' 5/75"). Omare McBride finished second in the women's high jump after she cleared a height of 1.60 meters (5'3").  Makaila McIntyre placed third in the women's long jump with a mark of 5.67 meters (18' 7.25").

Mac Bennett was the runner-up in the men's shot put thanks to his throw of 15.27 meters (50' 1.25") Lesleigh Tabor finished in third place in the women's shot put with a toss of 13.55 meters (44' 5.5"). Khadevis Snead placed third in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.90 meters (6' 2.75"). Victoria Solheim was fourth in the women's weight throw at 16.42 meters (53' 10.5"). Jay Stanley took fifth in the men's weight throw with a mark of 16.34 meters (53' 7.5").

In the sprint events, Mike Jones was the runner-up in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.28. McIntyre picked up her second top-five of the day with a third-place finish in the women's 60-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 7.70. David Miles scored two top-five finishes, finishing in fourth in the men's 200-meter dash and fifth finished in fifth place in the men's 60-meter dash. The women's 4x400-meter relay team wrapped up the meet with a fifth-place result, crossing the finish line in 4:07.26.

The Catamounts are off next weekend before heading to Johnson City, Tenn., and the ETSU Invitational on Feb. 5-6 in the ETSU Athletics Center, or the Mini-Dome.
