Four Catamounts Score in Double Figures in Win over Piedmont

Team Opens SoCon Play at UNCG Sunday


The Basics
 Score: Western Carolina 74, Piedmont 54
 Records: Western Carolina 2-7; Piedmont 2-4
 Location: Ramsey Center, Cullowhee, N.C.
 
CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina had four players score in double figures, led by Kyla Allison's 19 points, defeating Piedmont 74-54 Wednesday in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Trailing by two, 24-22, after the first quarter, Western Carolina had an offensive explosion outscoring Piedmont 26-10 in the second. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Allison scored a game-leading 19 points adding eight assists and seven rebounds.
  • Redshirt senior Tembre Moates' strong four-quarter propelled her to 14 points in the game.
  • Rookie Zanoria Cruz added 12 points while Mia Littlejohn closed out the double figure scoring with 11. 
  • Sophomore Allysa Walker ripped down a career-high 11 rebounds. 
  • Nakiyah Washington led Piedmont with 18 points. 


 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina shot 44.4 percent from the field holding Piedmont to 33.3 percent. 
  • The Catamounts pounded the glass doubling up the lions with 48 carroms to the Lions' 27. 
  • WCU found success inside the paint scoring 38 points. 
  • Each team had five three-pointers. 
  • After Piedmont cut the Catamount lead to 58-50, with 7:09 left in the fourth, WCU ballooned its lead to 24 points, 74-50 thanks to a 16-0 run. 
  • The Catamounts dished out 15 assists in the contest.

  • Redshirt senior Lauren LaPlant keeps her streak alive – hitting at least one three-pointer in 39 consecutive games.
  • The Catamounts extended its three-point streak as a team – WCU has hit at least one three-pointer in 342 straight games dating back to 2009. 
  • Littlejohn's 11 points was a career-high and the first time she scored in double figures as a Catamount.
  • Freshman Sophia Singer saw her first action as a Catamount against Piedmont. She played eight minutes scoring three points. 
  • Allison has scored in double figures in three of the last four games and five of the last six. 
  • Cruz has scored in double figures in the last five contests. 
  • Western Carolina's 74 points against Piedmont was a season-high for the Catamounts. 
  • Walker's 11 rebounds are a career-high. 
  • Western Carolina's 26 points, in the second quarter, was the most points scored in a quarter by WCU this season. 
  • The Catamounts have scored 60 or more points in the last four games. 
  • The win against Piedmont halts WCU's four-game losing streak.
  • Before facing Piedmont on Wed., WCU had not played since Dec. 21 – 15 days.
