Spartanburg, S.C. – The Western Carolina men's golf team slipped into a two-way tie for ninth with event co-host USC Upstate in Monday's second round at the Carolina Collegiate Invitational at the par-72, 6,929-yard Carolina Country Club. Tied for fourth after 18 holes, WCU freshman
Jake Peacock slipped into a four-way tie for 16th in the second 18 holes and enters Tuesday's final round just four strokes outside of the individual Top Five.
Paired with golfers from seventh-place Lipscomb and eighth-place Wofford, the Catamount scoring five is slated to tee-off on the front nine at 8:00 a.m.

Three-under par through 12 holes in his first round, Peacock stumbled with a triple-bogey on the par-4 17th that relegated him back to even-par. The Milton, Ga., native carded two birdies over his final five holes to card the opening round, 2-under par 70. Two bogeys and a double-bogey through seven holes in his second round left Peacock 4-over par before he began his charge. The first-year striker recovered with four birdies over the next nine holes to return to even-par before a bogey on his 36th hole of the day left him at 1-over for the round – his first round as a Catamount not carded at or below par.
Peacock slid 12 spots in the standings between the first and second rounds and is in the clubhouse with a two-round score of 1-under par, 143. He posted a team-high nine birdies on Monday.
Junior
Magnus Pedersen carded rounds of 1-over par 73 and 2-over par 74 for s 36-hole score of 147, tied for 38th overall. The Moss, Norway, native carded five birdies in the first 18 holes while posting 14 pars with three bogeys and a birdie in the second round. Pedersen matched Peacock with 22 pars.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five are senior
Tumi Kúld in a tie for 49th at 149 (75-74), freshman
Kyle Kushnir in a tie for 60th at 153 (76-77), and senior
Louis Theys in a tie for 79th overall with a two-round score of 159 (78-81). Kúld led the Catamounts with 24 pars in Monday's two rounds. Theys posted seven birdies on Monday, while both Kúld and Kushnir had four apiece.
High Point climbed two spots in the second round to sit atop the leaderboard by eight strokes over second-place UCF. In round two, the Panthers (557) posted the tournament's lowest team round of 16-under par, 272, to vault to the lead. Behind the Golden Knights (565) is first-round leader, Florida Gulf Coast, two strokes back at 567. With a score of 570, Jacksonville is fourth, with VCU (577) rounding out the top five.
Playing unattached as an individual, UCF's Markus Braadlie leads the 83-golfer field by a stroke over second-place Stuart Fuller of High Point. Braadlie posted rounds of 70 and a tournament-low 64 for a two-round score of 134, while Fuller carded consecutive rounds in the 60s at 67 and 68 for a 9-under par 135.
Tuesday's final round opens at 8:00 a.m. with tee times off both the front and back nine. Results, recap, and statistics will be made available after the final round.
