Isaacson Leads Women's Golf to Fifth at Buccaneer Classic

Madison Isaacson sits tied for sixth, just three strokes off the podium

Kiawah Island, S.C. – Western Carolina senior Madison Isaacson sits amidst a four-way tie for sixth place after two of the scheduled three rounds at the Buccaneer Classic, hosted by Charleston Southern at the par-72, 6,100-yard Oak Point Golf Course at the Kiawah Island Golf Resort. Isaacson carded a 2-under par 142 on Monday, guiding the Catamounts to fifth place at 588 after 36 holes of competition.

Tuesday's final round is scheduled for a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Paired with golfers from conference-foe Wofford and tournament-host CSU, WCU's scoring five opens between holes No. 5 through No. 8. Live scoring is available online through BirdieFire.

Isaacson charted a tournament-leading 28 pars over Monday's 36 holes, including 16 of the first 18 in the opening round. The Greensboro, N.C., native opened with a bogey on the par-4 13th but managed to erase it with a birdie on the par-4 sixth in posting an even-par round of 72. Isaacson countered a pair of bogeys with four birdies on the second 18 holes to shoot a career-best 2-under par 70 for both the round and the day, and enters the third round just three strokes off the individual podium.

Junior Victoria Ladd and freshman Kaitlyn Wingnean carded identical, consecutive rounds of 2-over par 74 to sit locked in a four-way tie for 24th after two rounds. On Monday, the two had five birdies, including two in the first round and three in the second with Wingnean posting her career-low rounds.

Ladd recovered from a bogey on her second hole of the day to move to 1-under par with consecutive birdies in making the turn to the front nine in the first round. However, a double-bogey on the par-3 second and a bogey on the par-4 10th left her at 2-over par. In the second round, Ladd was 3-over par five holes into her round. She played the next 13 holes at 1-under with a pair of birdies to counter a third bogey on the par-3 seventh for the 2-over round. Wingnean was 1-over par with three holes to play in the first round before finishing with a pair of bogeys and a birdie for the 2-over round. In the second 18 holes, the Edmonton, Alberta, native was even-par through 15 holes before back-to-back bogeys on the 11th and 12th left her with a second-straight round of 74.

Rounding out WCU's scoring five were freshman Elizabeth Lohbauer in a four-way tie for 30th at 150 (74-76) and redshirt freshman Kayleigh Baker in a tie for 62nd at 161 (80-81). Lohbauer countered four bogeys with a pair of birdies in a 2-over par 74 opening round and added a third birdie on Monday to move back to 4-over 76 in round two. Baker also had three birdies on Monday, two coming in the second round.

Playing unattached as an individual and making her collegiate debut, WCU sophomore Trinity Ahing posted rounds of 80 and 78 to enter Tuesday's final round in a tie for 57th overall at 158. Ahing carded three birdies on Monday, two coming in her second round.

No. 59 Coastal Carolina holds a one-stroke lead over second-place Georgia Southern after 36 holes, 562-to-563, as the Chanticleers posted a second-round, tournament-low score of 273. Limestone is seven strokes off the lead in third at 569, with Charleston Southern (584) and WCU (588) rounding out the top five. The Catamounts have a one-stroke edge over SoCon-foe Wofford (589) in sixth place.

Tiffany Arafi of Coastal Carolina posted 68 and 64 for a 36-hole score of 132 and leads the 73-golfer field by five strokes over GSU's Sarunchana Rattanasin (137).

Tuesday's final round opens at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Results, recap, and statistics will be made available at the conclusion.
