With the Win...
  • Western Carolina halted an eight-game winless drought that dated back to the spring season, scoring their first win of 2021, and ending a six-game seasonal slide;
  • The Catamounts ended an 11-game overall skid in road games, a mark that had been the fourth-longest active streak in the NCAA FCS … WCU also ended a five-game SoCon drought with the victory in Charleston;
  • WCU scored its second-consecutive victory over The Citadel in the head-to-head series, doing so for the first time since 2009-10 … the Catamounts also picked up their first victory in Charleston since 2017;
  • Western Carolina won its first game under first-year head coach Kerwin Bell.

  • Western Carolina amassed 577 yards of total offense against The Citadel, the fourth time this season in seven games that WCU has eclipsed the 500-yard mark … the 577 yards were the second-most by WCU this season (650 yds at Gardner-Webb) … WCU's 401 passing yards also represented its second-most this year (427 at Gardner-Webb) with the 31 completions ranking second on the year;
  • QB Carlos Davis completed a career-best 31-of-40 passes for a career-high 401 yards and three touchdown passes for a quarterback rating of 123.02 … Distributed the ball to nine different receivers during the game … Davis accounted for 423 total yards, adding 22 rushing yards in the win;
  • While matching the season-high with three touchdown passes, the Catamounts rushed for a season's best three scores on the ground including two by TJ Jones and one by Kenny Benjamin … Jones now has six rushing scores to lead the squad;
  • Jones accounted for 205 yards of total offense and three touchdowns in the road win at The Citadel … Jones rushed for a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns – it was his second, 100-yard rushing performance … He added three receptions for 73 yards and a touchdown;
  • Western Carolina scored a touchdown on its opening possession for the first time this season when Carlos Davis found a cutting Calvin Jones for a seven-yard strike … WCU has scored points on its first possession in three of the seven games to date including a pair of field goals against Eastern Kentucky and at Chattanooga;
  • WCU has held leads in FIVE of its SIX seasonal games against NCAA FCS competition this year including a season-best 25-point lead (28-3) in the second quarter against the Bulldogs;
  • WR Raphael Williams hauled in a career-high 12 passes for a career-best 147 receiving yards, adding his fifth receiving score of the season … It was his second, double-digit receptions game of his WCU career after tallying 11 earlier this season at Gardner-Webb … the 12 receptions are tied for the fourth-most in a single game by a Catamount in program history … Williams also posted his third 100-yard receiving game as a Catamount becoming the 27th Catamount with three-or-more, 100-yard receiving games;
  • Transfer TE Talon James made his first receptions as a Catamount in the road win at The Citadel, finishing with three catches for 17 yards;
  • WR Jakobe Quillen caught a career-best three passes for a career-high 69 yards including a long of 43 yards against The Citadel;
  • The Citadel entered Saturday's game averaging a SoCon-best 277 rushing yards per game … the Catamounts held the Bulldogs 100 yards below their seasonal average, surrendering just 177 yards on the ground … QB Jaylan Adams was held to his second-lowest rushing output with 56 yards and a score – Adams entered the week among the SoCon leaders on the ground;
  • The 177 rushing yards by the Bulldogs were the fewest allowed by a Catamount defense since 2009 when WCU held The Citadel to 91 rushing total yards – (142 yards gained, 51 yards lost);
  • LB Kareem Taylor posted his fourth double-digit tackle effort with a team-best 10 stops at The Citadel … DL Ricky Palao just missed double figures with nine tackles including seven solo stops, adding a tackle for loss on a sack – one of two sacks by WCU on the run-oriented Bulldog offense;
  • LB Ivan Hogans has posted FIVE tackles for loss in his last two games including three against Mercer and two at The Citadel;
  • WCU's defense recorded 8.0 tackles for loss last Saturday at The Citadel … the Catamounts have recorded four-or-more TFLs in every game this season with the eight marking the third-most this season (10.0 vs. Mercer, 9.0 vs. Samford) … WCU's two sacks at The Citadel marks a sixth-straight game the defense has come away with a sack – at least one in all but one game this fall;
  • With six tackles at The Citadel, fifth-year senior LB Ty Harris now has 343 career tackles to move into second place in program history all time … He also now has 26 career tackles for loss, five shy of moving into 10th in the record books;
  • PK Richard McCollum accounted for nine points in Saturday's win, including a chip-shot, 22-yard field goal … He is now 8-for-8 on field goals this season … McCollum extended his active made PAT streak to 35-straight by going a career-best 6-for-6 on PATs against The Citadel … He also handled all of the kickoff duties on Saturday with three touchbacks among his seven kickoffs;
  • Freshman punter Brady Elms was pressed into service after starting punter Brandon Dickerson was shaken-up on a tackle … Elms punted twice in his collegiate debut.
