'Battle at Black Creek' Up Next for Catamount Men's Golf

WCU has three Top 10 finishes to start the 2021-22 season

Cullowhee, N.C. – Catamount men's golf returns to action this week as the squad travels to the par-72, 7,060-yard Black Creek Club in Chattanooga, Tenn., for the 2021 Battle at Black Creek hosted by Southern Conference foe Chattanooga.
 
The tournament opens Monday morning with a 9:00 a.m. shotgun start with the teams playing 36 holes with continuous play. Tuesday's third round is scheduled for tee times off the first and 10th tees beginning at 8:30 a.m. Live scoring through GolfStat is available online through a link at CatamountSports.com.
 
In addition to the host Mocs and Catamounts, the 17-team, 96-golfer field includes competitors from Appalachian State, Austin Peay, Belmont, Dalton State, Francis Marion, Kennesaw State, Presbyterian, USC Upstate, South Dakota State, Southern Miss, UT Martin, Tennessee Tech, Troy, Western Kentucky, and Winthrop.
 
Western Carolina is coming off a seventh-place tie at the Carolina Collegiate Invitational back on Oct. 11-12, a third-straight Top 10 finish to open the 2021-22 season.
 
Ranking among the leaders in scoring average in the SoCon this season, freshman Jake Peacock is again poised to lead the Catamounts into action in Chattanooga. The Milton, Ga., native has the third-lowest stroke average among golfers reporting scores in the conference this season at 68.56 and three, Top Five individual finishes. He enters the week ranked 44th nationally in the most recent GolfStat NCAA rankings, the highest ranked individual in the tournament field.

WCU has two individuals slated to compete for the individual crown in Canadian-born freshman Kiefer Bulau and junior Quinton Metz.
 
Paired with golfers from Appalachian State, Chattanooga, and Southern Miss, WCU hits the course between the first and fourth holes at 9:00 a.m.
