Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carlina freshman
Elizabeth Lohbauer carded her career-best, 54-hole score of 218 to finish tied for sixth at the Terrier Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday, guiding the Catamounts to a sixth-place team finish, the squad's fourth Top 10 showing this fall.
Even-par through 36 holes, Lohbauer finished the tournament at the par-72, 6,056-yard Carolina Country Club with a team-best, 2-over par round of 74 Tuesday. Her combined score of 218 (73-71-74) ranks tied for the 10th-best, 54-hole score in program history.
Teeing off on the par-5 sixth, Lohbauer opened the final round with consecutive birdies to start the day at 2-under par. Consecutive bogeys before making the turn to the back nine relegated her to even-par with a double-bogey on the par-4 11th moving her to 2-over for the day. The Venice, Fla., native finished her round with 12-consecutive pars to shoot 74.
Lohbauer led the tournament with 41 combined pars over the 54-hole event, finishing 1-over par on both the par-3 (3.08) and par-4 (4.03) hole layouts.
Junior
Victoria Ladd advanced one spot in the final standings to finish tied for 24th with a three-round score of 227, shooting 3-over par 75 on Tuesday. The Greensboro, N.C., product countered a pair of double-bogeys and a trio of bogeys with four birdies on the final day, finishing the event with eight birdies and the team's only eagle coming in Monday's first round – one of just six eagles carded at the event.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were freshman
Kaitlyn Wingnean in a tie for 26th overall at 228, senior
Madison Isaacson in 58th overall at 236, and redshirt freshman
Kayleigh Baker in a tie for 74th at 244. Wingnean led the Catamounts with 11 birdies at the tournament, carding four on Tuesday.
Eastern Kentucky rallied to tie Lipscomb for the team championship as the two schools finished with matching 9-over par team scores of 873, sharing the tournament title. Central Michigan advanced into a tie with USC Upstate for third place with scores of 896, while Samford finished fifth at 902, just three strokes ahead of WCU (905) in sixth. WCU edged tournament host Wofford in seventh at 909.
Rylea Marcum of Eastern Kentucky edged her teammate Ragga Kristinsdottir by four strokes to claim the individual medalist honor, 209-to-213.
Western Carolina plays its final event in the fall portion of its 2021-22 schedule, traveling to Arden, N.C., for the French Broad Intercollegiate, hosted by UNC Asheville at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove. The three-round, 54-hole tournament is scheduled for three days on Nov. 8-10.
