CULLOWHEE, N.C. –  Following their first home matches of the 2021 season, the Western Carolina volleyball team returns to the road this weekend for a pair of matches as the Catamounts head to Furman on Friday and Wofford on Saturday. Both matches are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).

The Catamounts are 7-8 overall and 3-1 in league matches after splitting its first home matches of the season last weekend. WCU dropped its home opener 3-1 to Mercer on Oct. 1 before snapping a nine-match losing streak against defending league champion Samford with a 3-1 victory on Oct. 2.

Heading into the weekend the Catamounts rank second in the league in both blocks and digs. Reigning Libero of the Year Destinee Dorsey paces the conference and ranks 22^nd nationally in digs per set at 5.12.

Furman is 6-8 overall and 1-3 in SoCon matches after a 3-0 loss at The Citadel on Wednesday night. Paladin senior Neci Harris leads the SoCon in hitting percentage at .329. The teams split the 2020-21 matches in Greenville with Furman taking a 3-1 win on March 7 and the Catamounts picking up a 3-0 win the next day. Furman leads the all-time series 46-35 with both teams winning five of the last 10 matchups.

\Wofford enters the weekend with a 7-9 overall record and a 1-3 league mark. The Terriers lone league win came at Mercer with losses at Samford and The Citadel along with a home setback to Furman. The Catamounts lead the all-time series 27-17 after the teams split the 2020-21 season series in Cullowhee.

The Catamounts open a four-match homestand beginning with a contest against UNCG on Oct. 13 at 6 p.m.
