Daniel Island, S.C. – Freshman
Jake Peacock posted the team's lowest final-round score of 1-over par 73 on Tuesday, and classmate
Kyle Kushnir paced Western Carolina in a tie for 21st overall as the Catamounts advanced one spot in the final standings to place ninth at the Daniel Island Intercollegiate which concluded on the Ralston Course at the par-72, 7,424-yard Daniel Island Club.
Kushnir fired a final-round score of 2-over par 74 to post the second-best, 54-hole score of his first semester of college golf at 3-over par, 219, sliding one spot in the final standings. Opening on the par-4 seventh, the Raleigh, N.C., native was 2-over through three holes before a birdie on the par-3 15th halfway through his final round. Kushnir closed with two bogeys and a second birdie for the 2-over round.
Peacock climbed nine spots in the final standings with his 1-over par 73 on Tuesday to shoot 220 for the event to finish tied for 25th. A product of Milton, Ga., Peacock countered a pair of bogeys with two birdies over his first nine holes to head for home at even-par. A double-bogey on the par-4 first followed by a bogey on No. 2 left him a 3-over par. However, he rallied to birdie two of his final six holes to move back to 1-over 73 for the day.
The two Catamount freshmen, Kushnir and Peacock, paced the squad with eight birdies apiece.
Sophomore
Presten Richardson shot 3-over 75 on Tuesday to place in a tie for 32nd at 221 overall, with senior
Louis Theys (230) finishing tied for 65th and junior
Magnus Pedersen (238) coming home tied for 94th overall to conclude the fall semester. Richardson had two double bogeys that slowed his progress over the final 18 holes, carding three birdies on Tuesday to give him six for the event in addition to one of just four eagles posted by the field. He led WCU with 36 pars.
Theys charted seven birdies including four over the final 18 holes and Pedersen had six birdies in the 54-hole tournament.
Seton Hall claimed a four-stroke win over South Carolina in the team race, 858-to-862. College of Charleston finished tied with Florida State with matching scores of even-par 864, with Virginia (870) holding off hard-charging Campbell (872) for fifth place.
In second place after 36 holes on Monday, Nevill Ruiter of the College of Charleston claimed individual medalist honors by a stroke over a four-way tie for the runner-up spot, carding three birdies and an eagle on Tuesday in shooting 2-over 74 for a three-round score of 4-under par 212.
