With the win...
  • Western Carolina finished the regular season by winning four of its final five Southern Conference games after its mid-October bye week … WCU finished the year 4-4 overall in league play, its most SoCon wins since going 5-3 back in 2017 … In limiting the Keydets to 24 points, it marked the second-lowest scoring output by an opponent this season as WCU held Wofford to 21 points … It was the third-lowest scoring output by VMI in a game this season (10 vs. Kent State; 20 at ETSU);
  • WCU win its ninth-straight series road game in Lexington, Va., over VMI dating back to 1991 – and prevented VMI from winning consecutive games in the all-time series after the home loss last spring … the Catamounts improved to 24-4 all-time in the series against VMI;
  • Western Carolina won its third-straight Southern Conference road game coupled with wins at The Citadel and at Wofford … the three-straight conference road wins match a three-game win streak from back in 1984;
  • Represented the fourth victory at Western Carolina for head coach Kerwin Bell – the most by a Catamount first-year head coach since Kent Briggs won five back in the 2002 season.

  • With 3,159 yards of total offense this season, Wells finished the season ranked second in WCU's single-season history … His 3,159 yards of total offense are just the fourth 3,000+ yard season by a Catamount all-time and he is just the third to accomplish the feat – Tyrie Adams did it twice in 2017 and 2018 and Troy Mitchell in 2014;
  • Wells tossed four touchdown passes in the winning effort marking his third four-TD pass game this season … He finished the 2021 season with 20 passing touchdowns, tied for third in WCU's single-season record books, matching Troy Mitchell (2014) and Lonnie Galloway (1992) … Wells finished his collegiate career with 104 touchdown passes;
  • Calvin Jones finished with a career-high 10 catches for a career-best 195 yards and a touchdown in the road win at VMI … He's the second WCU receiver to post double-digit catches in a game this season joining Raphael Williams who did it three times – 11 at Gardner-Webb, 12 at The Citadel, and a program-record 16 at Wofford … His 195 receiving yards represent the most by a WCU receiver this season

  • Redshirt freshman WR Raphael Williams tallied three catches at VMI, finishing the season with 73 receptions to rank tied for third in program history – matching Wayne Tolleson (73, 1977) … Williams also caught his ninth receiving touchdown of the season at VMI, finishing the year tied for seventh in the program's single-season record book, matching Eddie Cohen (2007) with nine receiving scores;
  • With 959 seasonal receiving yards, Williams just missed the 1,000-plateau, but did break the Top 10 in the single-season record books in 10th, supplanting Craig Aiken (942 yards in 1992);
