Catamounts Drop Heartbreaker to Cincinnati 46-45

 Score: Cincinnati 46, Western Carolina 45

CINCINNATI, OHIO – Western Carolina women's basketball dropped an absolute heartbreaker 46-45 to Cincinnati Tuesday at Fifth Third Arena.   
 
Turning Point:
Cincinnati built a 45-42 lead, with 1:30 left, but Catamount Zanoria Cruz connected on a lay-up and was fouled. She hit the free throw to complete the three-point play and tie the game at 45. 
Tied at 45-45 Cincinnati drained 1-of-2 free throws to take the lead 46-45 with 40 seconds remaining. In the final 1.3 seconds of the game, Western Carolina's attempt to take the lead fell short.   
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Vanessa Oduah led the Catamounts with 13 points draining three treys in the game. 
  • Tembre Moates had seven points including hitting a three-pointer. 
  • Nadia Marshall had three steals in the game. 
  • Akira Levy and Braylyn Milton each had nine points for Cincinnati. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • The Catamounts did not score for seven-plus minutes in the fourth quarter.
  • Cincinnati outscored Western Carolina 30-19 in the second half.
  • Western Carolina led 26-16 at the half and held the Bearcats to two field goals in the second quarter. 
  • The Catamounts hit one field goal in the fourth quarter. 
  • The two teams combined for 43 turnovers with 23 coming from the Catamounts. The Bearcats scored 21 points off WCU turnovers.
