CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball returned home Monday and picked up a 70-51 win over Mars Hill on the Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
With Western Carolina leading by three, 31-28, at the half, the Catamounts picked up their offensive pressure outscoring Mars Hill 39-23 in the second half (18 in the third quarter and 21 in the fourth).

  • Western Carolina opened the game on a 9-0 run. 
  • Mars Hill led once in the game, 28-27, with two minutes left in the second quarter. The Catamounts went on a 4-0 run to close out the quarter and lead 31-28 at the half. 
  • Western Carolina built its largest lead of the game, 66-46, with 2:11 left in the game. 
  • Western Carolina hit six three-pointers in the game while Mars Hill had seven. 
  • The Catamounts scored 40 of its 70 points inside the paint. 
  • WCU had 17 turnovers and forced Mars Hill to cough it up 21 times. 
  • The Catamounts shot 46 percent from the field and held Mars Hill to 36.5.

  • With the win, Western Carolina snapped a two-game losing streak. 
  • The Catamounts have four wins after seven games to start the 2021-22 season. The four wins are two away from tying the win total of the 2020-21 campaign. 
  • Western Carolina has scored 70 or more points in four of the seven games of the year. 
  • Holliday ripped down a career-best 11 rebounds as a Catamount. She is the second Catamount of the year to have double-digit rebounds. Marshall had 12 rebounds against Emory & Henry on Nov. 9.
  • Marshall has scored in double figures in back-to-back games. 
  • The Catamounts started its seventh different lineup against Mars Hill. 
  • WCU is 4-1 at home to open the season.
