Marshall Records Double-Double in Catamount Season-Opening Win

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall logged in a double-double, 18 points, and 12 rebounds, in Western Carolina women's basketball's 72-48 season-opening win over visiting Emory & Henry.
 
The game was a regular-season countable contest for the Catamounts while Emory & Henry counted it as an exhibition.  
 
Turning Point:
With Western Carolina clinging to a 12-11 lead after the first quarter, the Catamounts outscored the Wasps 25-13 in the second quarter. WCU would go on to outscore Emory & Henry 35-24 in the final 20 minutes of the contest. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Marshall led all Catamounts with 18 points and ripped down 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. 
  • Sophomore Zanoria Cruz was the second Catamount to score in double figures ending the game with 13. She also dished out a team-leading four assists. 
  • Mykaylyn Davis had eight points and a game-best four steals.
  • Alexis Hoppers led Emory & Henry with nine points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina ripped down 47 rebounds in the game and held Emory & Henry to just 26. 
  • The Catamounts scored 48 of its 72 points inside the paint. 
  • Western Carolina's bench accounted for 56 points. 
  • All 14 Catamounts logged minutes in the game with 12 of the 14 getting in the scoring column. 
  • Western Carolina weathered through 20 turnovers with Emory & Henry turning them into 18 points. WCU forced the Wasps to cough up the ball 21 times getting 16 points.

  • Western Carolina is now 23-22 in season openers all-time and 29-16 in home openers since the 1976-77 season. 
  • Marshall recorded the third double-double of her Catamount career in the game against Emory & Henry. It was the fourth time here at WCU she has notched a double-figure rebounding game. 
  • Graduate transfer Madison Pack played in her first collegiate game since March 7, 2020, as her previous team, Columbia University, opted out of the 2020-21 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
  • Cruz's 13 points against Emory & Henry was the 11th time in her Catamount career she has scored double figures in a game. 
  • Western Carolina's game against Emory & Henry was the first of a four-game homestand.
