Nadia Marshall Records Double-Double in loss at Winthrop

Catamounts travel to Campbell Monday

 Score: Winthrop 71, Western Carolina 55

 Location: Winthrop Coliseum, Rock Hill, S.C.  
 
ROCK HILL, S.C. – Timely three-pointers by Winthrop was the difference in Western Carolina women's basketball's 71-55 loss to the Eagles Saturday at Winthrop Coliseum.  
 
Turning Point:
Winthrop hit a total of nine three-pointers in the game, shooting a scorching 51 percent from the field, and opened the game on a 6-0 run to secure the win. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall recorded a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. She was one rebound shy of tying her career-high of 17. 
  • Junior Endia Holliday had 12 points and four rebounds.  
  • Sophomore Zanoria Cruz had 11 points. 
  • Myra Strickland Sierra Hunter each led Winthrop with 16 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Winthrop hit key three-pointers just went Western Carolina was attempting to get back into the game, ending the contest with nine. The Catamounts connected on four. 
  • Western Carolina cut the Winthrop lead to two twice in the third quarter but after WCU trailed 35-33, Winthrop went on a 6-0 run and the Catamounts were never that close again. 
  • Winthrop went on a 14-4 run in the final five minutes of the game.  
  • Western Carolina had 25 turnovers in the game equating to 28 Eagle points. 
  • The Catamounts ripped down 47 rebounds in the game allowing 29 by Winthrop. Twenty-two of WCU's 47 was on the offensive glass.
 
 News & Notes
  • Marshall notched her second double-double of the season and fourth of her career. 
  • The Catamounts are now 0-3 on the road. 
  • WCU is on a two-game losing streak – its second losing streak of the season. 
  • The 55 points scored by WCU is the fifth time the Catamounts have scored under 60 points in a game. The Catamounts are 1-4 when scoring under 60 points on the season. 
  • Holliday's 12 points are the second time on the year she has scored in double figures.
  • Jacey Justice has hit at least one three-pointer in three of her last four games. 
  • The win by Winthrop was it's first of the season.
