Catamounts Fall on the Road at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Western Carolina dropped a 53-40 road contest at Campbell Monday in Gore Arena.  
 
Turning Point:
The Catamounts were held to nine first-quarter points and Campbell opened the second quarter on a 9-0 run holding WCU to four second-quarter points. It became a comeback mountain WCU could not summit.

 Inside the Box Score
  • Campbell hit nine three-pointers in the game while the Catamounts made three – all in the second half.
  • Western Carolina scored in double digits in the third (10) and fourth quarter (14) after failing to do so in the two first-half quarters. 
  • The Catamounts had 23 turnovers in the game as Campbell turned those miscues into 28 points. The Camels coughed the ball up 20 times as WCU scored 20 points off of turnovers. 
  • Campbell out-rebounded WCU 35 to 27. 
  • WCU edged Campbell in shooting at 39 percent to the Camels 36 percent. 
  • Campbell struggled from the free-throw line going 10-for-16 while the Catamounts were 5-of-8. 
 
 News & Notes
  • Western Carolina was out-rebounded in a game for only the second time this season – the first at Alabama. 
  • The game at Campbell was the second of four games in eight days for WCU. Western Carolina will close out this marathon stretch by hosting Tennessee Tech on Dec. 9 and traveling to South Carolina State on Dec.12. 
  • The 40 points scored by WCU against Campbell was a season-low. 
  • For the first time this season the Catamounts failed to have a player score in double figures. 
  • Jacey Justice has hit a three-pointer in four of her last five including nailing a buzzer-beater at the end of the game against Campbell.
