Catamounts and Mocs meet again Saturday

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Redshirt sophomore Nadia Marshall led all scorers with 21 points as Western Carolina women's basketball fell to Chattanooga 74-45 Thursday in McKenzie Arena. 
 
Turning Point:
Chattanooga used a 9-2 run in the second quarter to build a 36-26 lead at the half and never looked back. The Mocs' also connected on 11 three-pointers and held WCU scoreless from behind the three-point arch. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Marshall led the game with 21 points adding five rebounds.
  • Kyla Allison had eight points, six rebounds and dished out five assists. 
  • Tembre Moates also had eight points and six rebounds. 
  • Dena Jarrells and Anna Walker each led Chattanooga with 13 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Marshall scored almost half of Western Carolina's 45 points in the game with 21. 
  • Chattanooga drained 11 three-pointers in the game while Western Carolina was 0-of-8 from behind the three-point line. 
  • Chattanooga had 19 turnovers in the game while WCU had 14. 
  • The Mocs ripped down 38 rebounds, holding WCU to 26.
  • The Catamounts shot 38.1 percent from the field while Chattanooga was a scorching 52 percent. 
  • The Mocs outscored the Catamounts 19 to six in the fourth quarter. 
  • Chattanooga was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line while WCU was 5-of-9. 
 
 News & Notes
  • The Catamounts had its streak of 350 games of hitting at least one three-pointer snapped when WCU failed to drain a trey against Chattanooga. The streak dated back to 2009.
  • Marshall scored 20 or more points for the second time this season and the second time in three games. She is also the first player this season to score 20 or more points in multiple games. 
  • Marshall has now scored in double figures seven times this season. In the last six games, she is averaging 14.4 points per game.

Western Carolina will face off against Chattanooga for a second time Saturday. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
