McIntyre, Stanley Lead Catamounts on Friday at Dixon Invitational

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Seniors Jay Stanley and Makayla McIntyre both scored podium finishes in their respective events in opening day action of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational Friday at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
 
Stanley was the runner-up in the men's weight throw with a season-best distance of 16.46 meters (54').
 
McIntyre's season-best leap of 5.87 meters (19'3.25") earned her the second top-three finish in the event this season. The Peachtree City, Ga., native was the top-finishing collegiate athlete in the event, trailing unattached winner Cambree Harbaugh at 5.97 meters (19'7") and Team USA member Annie Kunz's leap of 5.93 meters (19'5.5").
 
In the women's 400-meter dash, sophomore Mekyll Robinson finished in seventh place with a time of 59.39 and was closely followed in eighth place by senior Dominiq Delisser as she finished with a time of 59.57. Junior Jamie Blaylock placed ninth in the women's 5,000-meter run with a finishing time of 18:13.50.
 
Senior Lesleigh Tabor finished seventh in the women's weight throw with a distance of 15.10 meters (49'6.5"). Junior Victoria Solheim was ninth thanks to her mark of 14.88 meters (48'10"). Junior Carter Unger and senior Kinley Drummonds both cleared a height of 3.35 meters (10'11.75") in the women's pole vault with Unger scoring the seventh-place finish after needing fewer attempts to clear her final height.  
 
In the men's long jump, sophomore Tyler Rodriguez placed fourth thanks to his leap of 6.98 meters (22'9").
 
WCU had two top-10 finishers in the men's pole vault led by junior Charles Cooley's fourth-place result after he cleared a height of 4.45 meters (14'7.25"). Classmate Jonathan Lehe also cleared 4.45 meters (14'7.25") and finished sixth after needing more attempts.
 
Due to forecasted winter weather in the Lynchburg area overnight, start times for Saturday have been pushed back one hour. The men's high jump and women's shot put begin at Noon with the finals of the 60-meter hurdles kicking off track events at 1 p.m.
