ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis picked up a 5-2 win over mountain rival UNC Asheville Wednesday at the Asheville Racquet Club.
 
 TURNING POINT:
UNCA jumped out to the early lead winning the doubles points with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. The Catamounts bounced back winning at No. 2 through No. 6 singles to secure the victory.
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  NOTES:
  • Western Carolina halted a two-match losing streak with the win.  
  • With the win over UNCA, Western Carolina avenged a 5-2 loss in 2019. The Catamounts have now won four of the last five meetings with the Bulldogs.
  • Junior Jacy Smith earned her 21st career singles win moving into a tie for 14th place in the WCU record books for singles wins in a career.
  • Smith also notched a win at doubles moving her career doubles total to 22. She ranks eighth in the WCU record books for career doubles wins and needs one to move into a tie for seventh.

Western Carolina will take a few days off before opening Southern Conference play at Furman at 3 p.m. Feb. 23.
