ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis dropped its first Southern Conference match of the season falling 7-0 to No. 24 Furman Tuesday at the Mickel Tennis Center.
TURNING POINT:
Furman swept the doubles point and quickly worked through the Catamount singles' players to take the match.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Junior Jacy Smith was the only Catamount to win a set in the match as she dropped the first set 2-6 and bounced back to take the second set 6-3. Madison Dillon won the match at No. 3 singles taking the tie-breaker 1-0 (10-8).
- No. 1 doubles tandem of Kata Foldeak and Jacy Smith was down by one, 3-2, to No. 27th ranked Katarina Kozarov and Julie Adams but the Paladins duo took the remaining three points to take the win.
NOTES:
- Western Carolina's match with Furman is the first time this season the Catamounts have played a ranked opponent.
UPCOMING:
Western Carolina hosts Tusculum at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the first of a three-match homestand.
