CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis defeated visiting Tusculum 5-2 Wednesday at the Catamount Tennis Complex.
 
TURNING POINT:
The Catamounts took two of the three matches in doubles to win the doubles match and took four of the six singles matches to earn their fourth win on the season. 
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
Western Carolina got wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point. Hoda Habib and Emily Elliott won at No. 3 doubles 6-1 followed by Anna Uljanov and Julia Pezzuco's win at No. 2 doubles, 6-2, to secure the doubles. 
Senior Carli Deehr got back into singles play winning at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-1, to give WCU a 2-0 lead. 
Junior Jacy Smith moved back up to No. 2 singles earning a 6-2, 6-2 win. 
Western Carolina also got wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to secure the win.
Foldeak and Habib suffered losses at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively. 
 
 NOTES:
The match with Tusculum is the second in as many days for the Catamounts as the team played at No. 24 Furman on Tuesday. 
Western Carolina will complete its homestand this weekend hosting UNCG on Saturday and Belmont on Sunday. 
Smith now has 22 career wins at singles ranking her 14th in the WCU record books. She needs two singles wins to move into the 13th. 
Western Carolina has won two of its last three matches.

Western Carolina hosts UNCG at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Catamounts' SoCon home opener.
