LaPlant Leads All Scorers with 21 in Loss at Furman

Catamounts and Paladins meet again Sunday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Redshirt senior Lauren LaPlant led all scorers with 21 points as Western Carolina women's basketball dropped a road contest at Furman 54-45 Friday in Timmons Arena.
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina scored in single digits in two of the four quarters and shot 32 percent from the field. The Catamounts did cut the Paladin lead to six, 30-24 at the half but Western Carolina could not get any closer than six points.  
 
 Individual Leaders
  • LaPlant scored almost half of Western Carolina's points with 21. She also connected on four three-pointers. 
  • Redshirt senior Tembre Moates came off the bench to score 13. She also had six rebounds. 
  • Tyah Hunter and Tierra Hodges led Furman with 14 points each. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Furman shot 47 percent from the field and outscored WCU in three of the four quarters. The Catamounts won the second quarter against the Paladins 17 to 14. 
  • Western Carolina connected on six three-pointers, four from LaPlant, while the Paladins hit four. 
  • Furman did not hit a three-pointer in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter. 
  • The Catamounts closed out the game hitting five out of six from the field. 
  • Furman ripped down 40 rebounds to Western Carolina's 26 with 32 of the Paladins 40 from the defensive end. 
  • The Catamounts had a season-low eight turnovers. 
 
 News & Notes
  • LaPlant and Moates combined for 34 of Western Carolina's 45 points against Furman. 
  • It was the second time this season LaPlant scored 20 or more points and the fourth time in her career. 
  • LaPlant now has 163 three-pointers in her career and continues to rank fourth in the WCU record books. She needs 12 to move into third place. 
  • Moates' 13 points marks the fifth time this season she has scored in double figures. 
  • The Catamounts have now lost seven straight to Furman. 
  • Mykaylyn Davis got her first start as a Catamount.

Western Carolina will face Furman for the second time in two days when the Catamounts face the Paladins at 2 p.m. Sunday.
