Two Score in Double Figures in Women's Basketball Loss at Furman

Catamounts travel to ETSU Tuesday

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Two Catamounts scored in double figures as Western Carolina women's basketball fell on the road at Furman 56-44 Sunday in Timmons Arena. 
 
Turning Point:
Furman's strong fourth quarter, outscoring Western Carolina 20-13 proved to be the difference-maker to secure the Paladins the win. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Kyla Allison led Western Carolina with 14 points and also had three assists and five rebounds.
  • Nadia Marshall came off the bench to add 10 points for the Catamounts. 
  • Tierra Hodges led Furman with a game-leading 21 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Twice Western Carolina cut the Furman lead to three points in the fourth quarter with a jumper by Allison and a lay-up by Lauren LaPlant. The second time WCU cut the Furman lead to three, 35-38 with 8:03 remaining, the Paladins went on a 5-0 run and the Catamounts never got that close again. 
  • It truly was a story of runs as the game was tied at 16 with 5:40 left in the second and Furman closed out the half on a 6-0 run to lead 23-16 heading into the locker room. 
  • Western Carolina hit a pair of three-pointers while Furman hit four. 
  • The Paladins shot 43.5 percent from the field while WCU was held to 39.1.
  • Furman scored 21 points off 16 Western Carolina turnovers.
  • The Paladins ripped down 32 rebounds while WCU had 24.  
 
 News & Notes
  • Allison leads the team has scored in double figures in 10 games this season and has scored in double figures in three of the last five games. 
  • After scoring two points over the last two games, Marshall got back to scoring in double figures with her 10 points against Furman. 
  • The Catamounts have now lost eight straight to Furman. 
  • Audrey Myers got her first start as a Catamount. 
  • LaPlant now has 165 career three-pointers ranking fourth in the WCU record books and is 10 away from moving into third place. 
 
Up Next
Western Carolina travels to Johnson City, Tenn. to take on ETSU at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The two teams will play a single game after the pair of games against the Bucs was postponed in January due to ETSU halting activities because of COVID protocols.
