Four Score in Double Figures as Catamounts Plunder ETSU

Hosts UNCG Friday in final home game of the year

 Location: Brooks Gym, Johnson City, Tenn.
 
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Four Catamounts scored in double figures to pace Western Carolina women's basketball to a 62-48 victory at ETSU Tuesday at Brooks Gym. 
 
The victory halts Western Carolina's 13-game losing streak to ETSU dating back to the 2013-14 season. The Catamounts win in Johnson City is also a first for WCU since Jan. 7, 1998, winning 78-70.
 
Turning Point:
Western Carolina outscored ETSU 32 to 23 in the second half and shot 50 percent from the field for the game. The Catamounts led by just two, 32-30 with 7:04 left in the fourth, and went on a 16-8 run to build a double-digit lead they would never relinquish. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Kyla Allison notched her first double-double of the season, and just missed a triple-double, with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists. 
  • Rookie Zanoria Cruz led all scorers with 16 points and was 7-of-7 from the field. 
  • Veterans Lauren LaPlant and Tembre Moates each had 14 points in the game. 
  • Jakhyla Davis led ETSU with 10 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina shot a scorching 50 percent from the field and drained seven three-pointers. 
  • The Catamounts ripped down 37 rebounds to ETSU's 28. Thirty what WCU's rebounds were on the defensive end. 
  • Western Carolina weathered 21 turnovers in the game as the Bucs turned them into 14 points. 
  • The Catamounts worked the ball inside scored 32 points inside the paint.
  • Western Carolina built as much as a 16 point lead in the fourth quarter.  
 
 News & Notes
  • Western Carolina's three conference wins this season are the most since the Catamounts had three in the 2016-17 season. 
  • The Catamount's six wins on the year are also the most since 2016-17 when WCU had eight wins. 
  • Western Carolina's 62 points against ETSU is the third time this season the Catamounts have scored 60 or more points in a conference game. 
  • LaPlant now has 169 career three-pointers ranking fourth in the WCU record books and is six away from moving into third place. 
  • Western Carolina had four players score in double figures in a game for the first time this season. 
  • Allison ripped down a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with her 12 points to record the first double-double of her career. 
  • Allison leads the team this season having scored in double figures 11 times. 
  • After going five games without scoring in double figures, Cruz got back in the double-figure scoring market with 16 against ETSU. 
  • Moates six rebounds in the game give her 452 in her career. 
  • LaPlant has scored double figures in three of the last four games. 
  • With the win against ETSU, Western Carolina has locked itself into the No. 7 seed in the upcoming SoCon Tournament.
