CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina dropped its match with Davidson 1-0 Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.  
 
Turning Point:
Davidson scored 10 minutes into the match and then held off an aggressive attack by Western Carolina to hold on for the win. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Melody Mezzina allowed one goal and notched six saves in the match. She falls to 1-1 on the season.
  • Senior Regan Ward had four shots in the match including two headers that just went wide of the goal. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Davidson scored in the 10th minute. The Wildcats' Gretchen Pearson took a shot that was saved by Mezzina. After the Catamounts couldn't clear the ball out, Remi White scored from the rebound pass by Pearson. 
  • Ward's header shot at the 53rd minute just grazed the top of the goal in the first of numerous scoring chances for WCU in the second half. 
  • The Catamounts had a total of nine shots in the game, seven of those shots in the second half. 
  • Western Carolina also had seven corner kicks in the game. 
 
News & Notes 
  • Mezzina ended the pair of games this week with a 1-1 record, with a shutout, 11 saves, and allowing one goal. She had a 0.49 goals-against average for the two games.

Western Carolina travels to Lynchburg, Va. to take on Liberty at 6 p.m. Thursday.
