Women's Tennis Sweeps Singles to Defeat Belmont, 6-1

Catamounts travel to Mercer Tuesday

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's tennis battled back from dropping the doubles point by sweeping singles to defeat visiting Belmont 6-1 Sunday at the Catamount Tennis Complex. 
 
TURNING POINT:
Western Carolina got a win at No. 1 doubles but dropped the other two to be down 1-0 heading into singles. The Catamounts swept singles' play to run away with the match. 
 
 INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
  • The Catamounts quickly got on the board, to tie the match, when Antonella Benavides earned a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles.
  • Anna Uljanov gave WCU its lead for good with a 6-3, 6-1 lead at No. 2 singles. 
  • Hoda Habib closed out the match, and sealed the singles sweep, with a 7-6, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles.  
 
NOTES:
  • Smith's win in doubles gives her 24 in her career tying her for fifth place and one win will push her to fourth. 
  • The match with Belmont was the fifth meeting between the two teams and the Catamount win pushes their lead to 3-2 over the Bruins all-time. 
  • Smith's 23rd singles career win moves her into a tie for 11th place in the WCU record books.
