JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The Western Carolina track & field teams recorded an individual and a relay win Saturday on the final day of the Buccaneer Invitational at the ETSU Athletics Center.
"We made some progressions this weekend across all the event groups, even while missing a good number of individuals," head coach
Jesse Norman stated. "However, as we gear up for the conference championships in three weeks, we've got a lot of work to do to begin to be in the conversation to win a team title on both sides".
Lesleigh Tabor won the women's shot put with a throw of 12.89 meters (42'3.5"). Saturday marked Tabor's third career win in the event and second indoors with the first being the individual title at the 2019 SoCon Indoor Championships.
Makila McIntyre,
Dominiq Delisser,
Marissa Blakely, and
Mekyll Robinson teamed up to win the women's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:00.48.
Carter Unger finished in second place in the women's pole vault as she cleared a height of 3.40 meters (11'1.75").
McIntyre led the women's sprinters as she was the runner-up in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.70.
Amaya English recorded a fifth-place finish in the women's 60-meter hurdles as she crossed the finish line in 9.55.
Kaleb Ambrose finished second in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.49.
In men's field events,
Jay Stanley,
Adam Hart, and
Mac Bennett finished second, third, and fourth respectively in the men's shot put. Stanley's throw of 14.79 (48'5.2") meters was a new indoor personal best with Hart also setting a new personal best thanks to his throw of 14.73 meters (48'3").
Jonathan Lehe was the runner-up in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.16 meters (13'7.75").
The Catamounts venture to Liberty University next weekend for the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in the final tune-up before the Southern Conference Championships on Feb. 27-28.
