Catamounts Fall to Mercer

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina women's basketball fell to visiting Mercer 71-47 Saturday in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Trailing Mercer 15-7 after the first quarter, Western Carolina found itself in a hole it couldn't climb out of when the Bears outscored WCU 24-14 in the second quarter. Mercer followed up the second quarter scoring explosion by holding the Catamounts to eight points in the third quarter, as the Bears scored 18 in the third frame.

  • Western Carolina was held to single-digit scoring in the first and third quarter. 
  • The Catamounts outscored Mercer 18 to 14 in the fourth quarter. 
  • Mercer shot 44.6 percent from the field and held Western Carolina to 29.4 percent. 
  • The Bears ripped down 45 rebounds while WCU had 32. 
  • Mercer turned Western Carolina's 13 turnovers into 18 points. 
  • Mercer led for the entire game which started with a three-pointer. 
  • The Catamounts got 20 of its 47 points from their bench. 
  • The Catamounts were 15-of-20 from the free-throw line while Mercer was 10-of-18.
 News & Notes
  • The Catamounts extended its three-point streak as a team – WCU has hit at least one three-pointer in 350 straight games dating back to 2009. 
  • After going three games without scoring in double figures, Allison got back to scoring in double figures with 14 points against Mercer. She has now scored in double figures in eight games on the year.
  • Cruz had her streak of scoring in double figures halted at three scoring four points Saturday vs. Mercer. 
  • Marshall has scored in double figures in four of her last five games. In the last five games, she is averaging 12.8 points per game. 
  • In conference-only games, Marshall leads the Catamounts averaging 9.7 points per game. She is also averaging 7.0 rebounds in conference-only contests.
