CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina volleyball remains on the road this weekend as the Catamounts head to Alabama to face Samford in a two-match series. The Catamounts and Bulldogs square off at 5 p.m. Eastern/4 p.m. Central on Super Bowl Sunday before concluding their two-game set on Monday at 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Central.
Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required) with Blake Gardner and Zahria Richard calling the action.
WCU is 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the Southern Conference after splitting two matches at The Citadel. On Monday, the Catamounts rallied back after dropping the first two sets for a dramatic 3-2 win. Junior
Merry Gebel had a career-high 25 kills and tied a career-high with 19 digs. On Tuesday afternoon, The Citadel earned a 3-0 victory.
Samford is 1-1 after splitting its opening two league matches at Mercer last weekend. The Bulldogs opened the season with a 3-0 win on Sunday before dropping Monday's match 3-1. Lauren Deaton leads the team with an average of 6.0 kills per set.
The teams have met 32 previous times with Samford holding a 25-7 lead in the all-time series.
WCU kicks off the home portion of its league schedule next weekend, welcoming Chattanooga to the Ramsey Center on Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 5:30 p.m.
