BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Western Carolina women's soccer suffered a 3-0 loss at Samford Friday at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. 
 
Turning Point:
Samford scored one goal in the first half and tacked on two more in the second. 
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Samford scored its first goal at the 32nd minute as Alex Bice navigated through for Catamount defenders to kick the ball into the right side of the net over the diving WCU goalie Melody Mezzina
  • The Bulldogs scored its second goal at 62:21 when Taylor Yount scored from a cross by Layla Brown.
  • Samford put the nail in the coffin of the game at 82:15 when Ella Simpson intercepted a Catamount pass and took the ball in for the score. 
  • Samford had a total of 14 shots in the match and Western Carolina had four, two in each half. 
  • Western Carolina had an early scoring chance in the 18th minute when WCU earned a corner kick and maneuvered the ball to Summit Dann who has a shot on goal but it was saved by the Bulldogs. 
  • Melody Mezzina played the full 90 minutes in goal and had three saves and allowed three goals – the most she has given up this season. She falls to 2-4 on the year.

  • Mezzina has 27 saves on the season and 60 in her career ranking ninth in the WCU record books. 
  • Western Carolina has been shut out four times this season and in back-to-back matches. 
 
 Up Next
Western Carolina will travel to Chattanooga Sunday to meet up with the Mocs for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
