Catamount Men’s Golf 8th at Seahawk Intercollegiate

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday morning

Wallace, N.C. – Western Carolina junior Louis Theys and sophomore Pierre Viallaneix carded matching two-round scores of even-par 144 on Monday to sit tied for 21st to lead the Catamounts to eighth after 36 of 54 holes at the Seahawk Intercollegiate, hosted by UNC Wilmington at the par-72, 7,017-yard River Landing Golf Club. WCU posted rounds of 296 and 291 for a total of 587 entering Tuesday's final round.
 
Theys carded a team-best eight birdies – four per round – in shooting 1-over par 73 in the first round before improving by two strokes for a 1-under par 71 in the second for the 36-hole even-par 144. Viallaneix tallied seven birdies on Monday, shooting 1-under par 71 in the first round before a second-round 1-over 73 the second time through for the total of 144.
 
Sophomore Magnus Pedersen is a stroke back with a 1-over par 145, carding rounds of 74 and 71, respectively, on Monday. Five of Pedersen's six birdies came in the second round and he charted a team-best 23 pars over 36 holes. Freshman Presten Richardson posted an opening day score of 154, shooting 78 and 76 with five total birdies. Richardson matched Viallaneix for a team-best 4-under par (4.50) in par-5 scoring.
 
Rounding out the WCU scoring side is junior Tumi Kúld in a tie for 59th at 158 and sophomore Quinton Metz in 63rd at 162. Kúld cut six strokes off his opening-round 82 with a second-round score of 76 while Metz was two strokes better through the second 18 holes.
 
Ranked 48th in the country, tournament host UNC Wilmington leads the 10-team field by 12 strokes over second-place Wright State, 553-to-565, after 36 of the scheduled 54 holes. James Madison moved two spots in the second round into third place at 571 with Francis Marion (574) and Lipscomb (575) rounding out the top five.
 
UNCW has three golfers inside the individual top 10 led by Blake McShea who leads the 66-golfer field with a 10-under par 134. Hunter Fry of USC Upstate is two strokes in arrears at 8-under, 136, entering the Tuesday.
