CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina volleyball plays its final home match of the 2020-21 season on Thursday as the Catamounts welcome Wofford to the Ramsey Regional Activity Center for a 6 p.m. start. The match will be streamed on ESPN+ (
paid subscription required).
Please note that those attending the match will need to enter the Ramsey Center at the Northwest Entrance to access the building as the Southwest Entrance is closed due to construction.
Thursday's match marks the second meeting between the teams this season with the Terriers outlasting WCU in five sets on Feb. 24. The teams had been scheduled to open the season against each other in Cullowhee on Jan. 31-Feb. 1, but had the series postponed due to COVID-19 protocols in the Wofford program. Both teams enter the midweek match-up north of the conference tournament cut-off line with the Terriers in third-place, just ahead of WCU in fourth.
Western Carolina was off last weekend as part of its scheduled SoCon bye. The Catamounts improved their record to 8-7 overall and 8-5 in league matches after a pair of 3-0 home wins over Mercer on March 14 and 15. WCU swept the regular-season series against the Bears for the second straight year and in the process claimed its first 3-0 win over Mercer since the Bears joined the SoCon before the 2014-15 season.
Wofford is 10-5 on the season and in league play after splitting two home matches with archrival Furman. The Terriers swept the Paladins 3-0 on Sunday before the Paladins got their revenge with a 3-2 win on Monday. Freshman Emily Hodsdon earned the SoCon Setter of the Week award on Tuesday after averaging 10.38 assists per set against the Paladins.
The Catamounts conclude the 2020-21 regular season this weekend, traveling to UNCG for a 6 p.m. Sunday match followed by a 5 p.m. Monday contest.
