Men’s Golf Slips to 13th at Furman Intercollegiate

Louis Theys posts team-best second round with 3-over par 74

Greenville, S.C. – Western Carolina men's golf slipped to 13th-place on rain-delayed Saturday at the 51st annual Furman Intercollegiate held at the par-71, 6,984-yard Furman University Golf Course. Junior Louis Theys climbed 12 spots in the individual standings with WCU's best second-round score of 3-over par 74.
 
Theys was three-strokes better in the second round for a two-day total of 9-over par 151. He carded a pair of birdies on the front nine, making the turn to the back nine at 1-over par. He parred seven of his final nine holes with a couple of bogeys for the 3-over round.
 
Sophomore Magnus Pedersen continues to lead WCU's scoring five, tied with freshman Presten Richardson for 77th in the overall standings with a 7-over par, 149. Pedersen followed his opening-round even-par 71 with a 7-over 78 with one birdie against seven holes of bogey-or-worse. Richardson carded an eagle on the par-5 second hole but was 2-over par at the turn with four bogeys. Two additional bogeys on the back nine left him at 4-over for the round.
 
Sophomore Pierre Viallaneix duplicated his first-round 76 on Saturday, carding a pair of birdies to sit in a tie for 71st overall while rounding out WCU's scoring five was junior Tumi Kúld in a tie for 77th with a two-day score of 153.
 
Playing unattached as an individual, sophomore Quinton Metz was nine strokes better in the second round, shooting 5-over par 76 over the second 18 holes in 100th overall.
 
With a couple of individuals inside the top six, tournament host Furman leads the 17-team field by two strokes over Wofford, 566-to-568, entering Sunday's final round. Florida Gulf Coast is third, six strokes off the pace at 572, with Chattanooga (575) and Charleston Southern (581) rounding out the top five. First-round co-leader Keller Harper of Furman paces the field by two strokes over teammate Walker Crosby, who is playing unattached, 135-to-137.
