CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Following a home straight-sets win over third-place Wofford on Thursday night that stretched its winning streak to a season-best four matches, the Western Carolina volleyball team looks to continue its hot streak this weekend as the Catamounts conclude the 2020-21 regular season in Greensboro, N.C., at UNCG.
 
The Catamounts and Spartans battle on Sunday (March 28) at 6 p.m. and conclude the regular season on Monday (March 29) at 5 p.m. Sunday's match will be streamed on ESPN+ (paid subscription required).
 
WCU is 9-7 on the season and 9-5 in league play after its 3-0 win over the Terriers, solifidying its spot in the league's top four and securing a berth in the four-team postseason SoCon Tournament. Currently third in the SoCon standings, the Catamounts can finish as high as second place with a weekend sweep of the Spartans and if Mercer drops both of its matches at Furman.
 
In Thursday's win, junior Merry Gebel paced the Catamount offense with 12 kills and three service aces. Freshman Julia Gardon tallied 11 kills. Senior Hannah Price dished out a match-best 33 assists while freshman Destinee Dorsey led the team with 17 digs. In each of their last four victories, the Catamounts have won the match in three sets.
 
UNCG is 2-13 overall and 2-12 in league matches after a pair of road losses at The Citadel last weekend. Both of UNCG's league wins came as part of a series sweep at Furman. Maria Esch leads the team with 3.18 kills per set which ranks sixth-best in the league. Jenna Wiggs has a team-best 3.25 digs per set.
 
WCU will play in the SoCon Tournament semifinals on April 2 at a time to be determined.
