COLUMBIA, S.C. –
Makaila McIntyre led Western Carolina with an event win and a top-five finish as the Catamount track & field team competed in the Gamecock Invitational hosted by South Carolina on Saturday.
McIntyre won the women's long jump with a leap of 5.84 meters (19'2"), just edging the second-place finisher by .01 meters. It is her second career outdoor victory in the event. Later in the day, McIntyre finished fifth in the women's triple jump with a top mark of 12.16 meters (39'10.75").
The quartet of
Mekyll Robinson,
Kellsie Whitehead,
Dominiq Delisser, and
Marissa Blakely placed fourth with a time of 3:49.08 in the women's 4x400-meter relay. In the women's 4x100-meter relay, Whitehead, Robinson, Delisser, and McIntyre finished sixth as they completed the race with a time of 47.59.
Omare McBride was eighth in the women's triple jump thanks to a leap of 11.67 meters (38'3.5") while
Lesleigh Tabor placed eighth in the women's shot put with a top throw of 12.85 meters (42'2").
For the men's team,
Shon Pratcher finished third in the men's long jump with a season-best mark of 7.25 meters (23'9.5"). Also, the team of
Zae Smith,
Marcus Brown, Pratcher, and
Kevin Haley, Jr. finished fourth in the men's 4x400-meter relay with a finishing time of 3:19.83.
WCU hosts the Catamount Classic next Friday and Saturday in the final meet before the Southern Conference Championships on May 1-2.
