Sprinters, Field Events Pace Catamounts Friday at VertKlasse Meeting

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Western Carolina recorded one event win and 11 top-five finishes on Friday as the Catamounts completed the final events of the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point at Dick Vert Track.
 
In the women's 4x400-meter relay, Kellsie Whitehead, Dominiq Delisser, Marissa Blakely, and Nytrinity Jenkins team up to win the race with a time of 3:52.76.
 
The 4x100-meter relay team of Delisser, Makaila McIntyre, Whitehead, and Mekyll Robinson finished second with a time of 47.56.
 
Robinson recorded two podium finishes after she finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.26 and followed that up with a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.37.
 
Whitehead finished third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.42. Additional WCU top-10 finishers in the event include McIntyre in sixth with at time 25.67 along with Delisser in ninth thanks to a time of 25.84.
 
A pair of freshmen led WCU in the 100-meter hurdles with Imani Boyd finishing in fifth at 14.66 followed by Dami Shodeinde in sixth at 14.72.
 
Boyd earned a seventh-place finish in the high jump invitational section after she cleared a height of 1.53 meters (5'0.25").
 
Derica Currie was seventh in the triple jump with a top leap of 10.96 meters (35'11.5").
 
Blakely placed 10th in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 58.98.
 
The men's team was led by four top-five finishes in field events. Shon Pratcher finished third in the long jump with a mark of 7.02 meters (23'0.5"). Brandon Harvey scored an eighth-place result in the event with a top leap of 6.68 meters (21'11").
 
Tyler Rodriguez finished third in the triple jump thanks to a new personal best distance of 13.86 meters (45'5.75"). Harvey took home his second eighth-place result of the day with a mark of 13.29 meters (43'7.25").
 
Reigning SoCon Men's Field Athlete of the Week Mac Bennett was fourth in the discus with a throw of 46.45 meters (152'4"). Adam Hart placed fifth after a personal-best throw of 45.34 meters (148'9").
 
David Miles led three WCU runners in the top 10 of the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.97 for a fifth-place finish. Pratcher followed in eighth with a time of 22.19 and Tyler Manigault in 10th at 22.55.
 
Kevin Haley, Jr. finished seventh in the 400-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 49.98.
 
The Catamounts head to South Carolina on Saturday, April 10 for the Gamecock Invitational.
