Kiawah Island, S.C. – Western Carolina women's golf posted its best round of the 54-hole 2021 Southern Conference Women's Golf Championship on Tuesday, shooting 302 over the final round at the par-72, 6,006-yard Oak Point Golf Course, its best round at the conference champion-crowning event since 2015. The Catamounts came home eighth overall with a two-day tally of 926, also the squad's best three-round score at the event since 2015.
Sophomore
Victoria Ladd posted WCU's best individual round on Tuesday with a 2-over par 74 to advance four spots in the final standings into 19th overall at 227. Junior
Madison Isaacson, who led the scoring five through Monday's opening two rounds, finished tied for 17th, a stroke ahead of Ladd at 226 to lead the Catamounts.
Opening on the back nine, Ladd carded a pair of birdies against one bogey to make the turn for home at 1-under par. She started the front nine with three-consecutive pars before a double-bogey on the par-5 fourth and a bogey on the par-4 fifth left her at 2-over. The Greensboro, N.C., native capped her round with a birdie on the par-5 eighth before a third bogey of the round on her 18th hole – the par-3, 141-yard ninth – relegated her to 2-over for the day.
Isaacson made the turn at 5-over par on Tuesday with one birdie against four bogeys and a double-bogey over her opening nine holes. She recovered, though, to shoot even-par on the front nine, countering a bogey on the par-4 fifth with her second birdie of the day on the par-5 eighth to shoot 77.
Isaacson finished the event second in par-3 scoring at 1-under (2.93) while leading WCU with 35 pars over the 54-hole tournament. Ladd carded a team-best seven birdies and shot 1-under on the par-5 layouts (4.93).
Senior
Maya White climbed four spots in the final standings into a tie for 34th overall with a final-round 3-over par 75. White shot par on eight of her first nine holes with one birdie to make the turn for home at 1-under par. The Fletcher, N.C., product bogeyed three of her final six holes with a double-bogey on the fifth and a second birdie on the eighth for the 3-over round and a 236 for the event.
Rounding out WCU's scoring five were senior
Cameron Wood up three spots into a tie for 40th and classmate
Hazel Martin, who posted her second round of 79 on Tuesday, finishing 45th overall after withdrawing from Monday's second round. Both Wood and Martin tallied two birdies in Tuesday's final round.
ETSU rallied back over the final 18 holes to claim the team championship, edging Furman by a stroke, 876-to-877. The Paladins took two of the individual podium finishes with Sarah-Eve Rheaume claiming medalist honors at 212 a stroke ahead of runner-up teammate Madison Moosa (213). ETSU put four of its scoring five inside the individual top 10 overall paced by Tereza Melecka in a three-way tie for third (218).
The Buccaneers garnered the SoCon's automatic team bid to an NCAA regional while Rheaume earned the individual bid for Furman.
Mercer advanced a position to finish third overall at 884, followed by Chattanooga (897) and Samford (899) to round out the top five. Wofford finished sixth with a three-round score of 916, followed by UNCG (921), WCU (926), and The Citadel (960).
