Spartanburg, S.C. – Western Carolina split Saturday's Southern Conference baseball doubleheader at Wofford, dropping game one 12-9 as the Terriers claimed the series before rallying late in the nightcap to win 11-6 at Russell C. King Field.

Will Prater and
Daylan Nanny led WCU with four hits over Saturday's two games, with Nanny doubling three times. Both
Justice Bigbie and
Zach Ketterman had three hits apiece.
WCU's victory in the nightcap halted a three-game seasonal slide coming on the heels of the Catamounts' eight-game win streak. It also ended a five-game drought for the Catamounts against Wofford in games played in Spartanburg.
Game One Recap:
Wofford scored runs in bunches and seemingly had the answer for each WCU rally in claiming the series with a 12-9 victory in game two of the series and game one of Saturday's doubleheader. Wofford used a four-run fifth inning to grab a lead it would never relinquish, following it up with a five-run sixth and three insurance markers in the seventh.
Trailing by seven, 9-2, WCU used a three-run home run by
Luke Robinson and a solo shot by
Justice Bigbie in back-to-back homers to claw back to within three, 9-6. But each time, the Terriers had an answer in the home half to regain a sizeable advantage.
Junior
Daylan Nanny doubled as a part of a team-best 3-for-5 showing at the plate in game one while
Seth Graves drove in two runs finishing 1-for-3 with a walk. Robinson finished 1-for-5 with the three-run homer accounting for his three RBI while Bigbie was 2-for-4 for the Catamounts. WCU struck out 10 times in game one and stranded seven runners on base in the defeat.
WCU starter
Ryan Mitschele (2-2) took the loss, allowing five runs on six hits with four strikeouts against three walks and a hit batter.
Davis Tyndall struck out one in an inning of work, with
Jack Snyder tossing the final two frames.
Wofford's Sam Stratton (2-1) was credited with the win, striking out three in a predetermined three-inning start. Colin Davis led three Terriers with multi-hit games finishing 3-for-4 with two RBI while Trey Yunger and Cameron Gill collected two hits apiece.
Game Two Recap:
Western Carolina scored eight runs over the final two innings of Saturday's doubleheader nightcap to rally past Wofford, 11-6, and salvage a split in the twinbill, halting a three-game seasonal slide. The Catamounts trailed by four, 5-1, after five innings, outscoring Wofford 10-1 over the final four frames.
Freshman
Zach Ketterman ignited a six-run rally in the top of the eighth inning with a two-run double, with
Luke Robinson also driving in a pair on a two-out single up the middle that pushed the Catamounts into the lead for the first time.
Junior
Will Prater finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored to pace the Catamounts, while Ketterman was 2-for-4 with three RBI. Robinson was 1-for-5 with two RBI in the win.
Reliever
Nick Hyde (2-0) scored the victory for the Catamounts out of the bullpen, striking out one against two walks in two-thirds of an inning of work.
Zach Franklin closed the game over the final two innings of hitless, scoreless relief, working around a walk with a strikeout.
Wofford reliever Jake Dippold (0-1) took the loss after surrendering four runs on two hits with a walk and a hit batter. Starter Elliot Carney struck out 11 over 5.1 innings as Terrier pitching recorded 19 combined strikeouts in the loss.
Colin Davis collected three hits to lead a trio of Terriers with multiple-hit games, finishing 3-for-5 with a double and a home run. Nolen Hester doubled in a 2-for-4 effort, with Jack Renwick going 2-for-3 with a double.
Western Carolina concludes its five-game road swing on Wednesday, April 7, to face Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, N.C. The first pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
