CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Graduate transfer Natalie McNally scored the game-winning goal at the 74th minute to help lead Western Carolina women's soccer to a 2-1 victory over visiting UNC Asheville Sunday at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

The victory was the first of the season for the Catamounts.

How it Happened

  • After 11 shots in the first 30 plus minutes of the match, Western Carolina finally found the back of the net in the 39th minute for the first goal of the match.
  • Rookie Kirsten Hahn scored the first Catamount goal taking a pass from the right side from Riley Terry who booted it just past mid-field. The Ball careened off a Bulldog player right in front of Hahn who took the shot at the 20-yard line to Hahn. The laser shot sailed past the Bulldog goalie, into the left side of the goal, for the score.
  • After being held without a shot in the first half, the Bulldogs made the most of their first shot in the second half. In a busted play Taylor Gardner got the goal off a misplay by the Catamounts.
  • McNally's goal for the Catamounts at the 74th minute earned her a game-winning goal and a victory for WCU. A header just wide of the post sent the ball to Maryanne Kilgore how passed the ball to McNally inside the box. She took the bounce pass and sent it high to the top of the goal and over the Bulldog goal for the score.
