DAVIDSON, N.C. – Valentine Pursey scored the lone goal in the match to help propel Western Carolina women's soccer to a 1-0 blanking of Davidson Thursday at the Alumni Soccer Stadium.

Melody Mezzina's heroic last-minute save in the final two seconds of the match kept Davidson from tying the match and secured the win.Â

How it Happened
- Pursey scored four minutes into the match taking a pass from the right side by Kirsten Hahn who placed it right in front of the goal. Pursey buried it past the goalkeeper in front of the sticks.Â

Individual Leaders:
- Pursey scored the lone goal – her second in as many matches.Â
- Rookie Kirsten Hahn picked up an assist on Pursey's goal.Â
- Junior Mezzina earned her second-straight shutout in her second start of the season. She improves to 2-0 on the year. She ended with five saves in the contest.Â
- Rea Syska, Reily Nelson, and Alexis DeMarco each had two shots in the contest.Â

- The Canuck, Mezzina, was on the case in the waning seconds of the match as Davidson attempted to knot the contest with under two seconds remaining. Wildcat Rachel Schleichler took a shot to the right side but Mezzina reached out her paw and denied the scoring attempt.Â

- Since Mezzina has returned to prowl the goal the Catamounts have not allowed a goal in the last 180 minutes – posting back-to-back shutouts.Â

- Western Carolina has won three of its last four matches and has won two straight road contests.Â
- Hahn now leads the Catamounts with six points with two goals and two assists.Â
- Pursey has scored a goal in the last two matches. For her career, dating back to her time at IUPUI, she has 29 career goals.
- Western Carolina avenged a 1-0 loss to Davidson just seven months ago, Feb. 21, 2021, in Cullowhee. WCU has now won two of the last three match-ups against the Wildcats earning their seventh win overall against Davidson. Â
