Reid Notches Double-Double in Hard Fought Loss to Mercer

CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Sophomore Joi Reid logged in a double-double, 11 points and 11 rebounds, as Western Carolina women's basketball dropped a hard-fought battle with Southern Conference leader Mercer 69-58 Saturday on Ingles Court in the Ramsey Center. 
 
Turning Point:
Tied at 48 after three quarters, Mercer outscored Western Carolina 21-10 in the fourth quarter and shot 60 percent from the field in the final 10 minutes of the game. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Vanessa Oduah and Endia Holliday each scored 14 points in the game to lead the Catamounts. Holliday just missed a double-double with eight rebounds. 
  • Along with her 11 points and 11 rebounds, Reid also dished out six assists. 
  • Mercer's Amoria Neal-Tysor led all scorers with 25 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • There were nine lead changes and seven ties in the game. 
  • Western Carolina led for 19:09 of the game while Mercer led for 13:52.
  • Mercer used its best scoring run of the game, 8-0, to cut the Catamount lead from 10 to two, with 40 seconds left in the second quarter. WCU led 34-32 at the half. 
  • Mercer hit nine three-pointers, four of those in the first quarter. The Catamounts hit six three-pointers. 
  • Western Carolina struggled from the free-throw line hitting 10-of-20. Mercer was 12-of-18. 
  • The Catamounts won the rebounding war ripping down 36 to Mercer's 28. WCU had 23 defensive boards. 
  • Western Carolina had 20 turnovers and Mercer turned the miscues into 17 points. 
  • Each team scored 26 points inside the paint. 
  • Western Carolina outshot the Bears 43.8 percent to 42.1 percent. 
 
 News & Notes
  • Reid scored a career-high 11 points and notched the first double-double of her career with 11 rebounds. 
  • Reid's six assists are a career-high for the sophomore. 
  • Eight of Reid's 11 blocks this season have occurred over the last seven games.
  • Oduah has scored in double figures in back-to-back games and three of the last four. 
  • The Catamounts held the Bears' leading scorer Jaron Dougherty, who is averaging 13.1 points per game, to just six points. 
  • Mercer trailed in a game for the first time since Dec. 19, 2021, when they were down 34-25 against UAB.
