Trumm Paces Catamounts in Loss at Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Freshman Bailey Trumm led Western Carolina women's basketball with 11 points as the Catamounts dropped a Southern Conference road contest at Chattanooga 55-48 Thursday at McKenzie Arena. 
 
Turning Point:
Chattanooga outscored Western Carolina 20-7 in the third quarter, erasing a nine-point, 30-21, halftime deficit to come from behind and defeat WCU. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Trumm hit three treys and paced the Catamounts with 11 points. 
  • Redshirt junior Nadia Marshall ripped down a team-best nine rebounds. 
  • Chattanooga's Abbey Cornelius led the game with a double-double of 17 points and 16 rebounds. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina led by as much as 12 points with 4:31 left in the second quarter. 
  • Trumm hit a three-pointer with one minute left to trim the Chattanooga lead to two, 50-48. A three-pointer by Amaria Pugh iced the game for the Mocs with 39 seconds remaining. 
  • The Catamounts had just three turnovers after the first half and ended the game with a season-low eight. 
  • Chattanooga got 13 of its points from the free-throw line going 13-of-19. Western Carolina was 6-of-12.
  • The Catamounts doubled up Chattanooga from behind the three-point arch draining eight to the Mocs four. WCU did hit six of its eight in the first half. 
  • Chattanooga just edged WCU in rebounds pulling down 35 to the Catamounts 31
  • Chattanooga scored 26 of its points inside the paint. 
  • Western Carolina got 26 of its points from its bench. 
  • After scoring 30 first-half points, Western Carolina scored 18 in the final 20 minutes. 
 
 News & Notes
  • Trumm scored in double figures for the third time this season and led the team in scoring for the first time in her Catamount career. 
  • Marshall dished out a career-high five assists. 
  • Western Carolina has hit four or more three-pointers in the last seven games and connected on the second-most this season with eight against Chattanooga. 
  • The Catamounts have hit 44 of its 77 three-pointers this season in the last seven games. 
  • Sophomore Joi Reid has collected at least one block in five of the last six games and leads the team with 12. Her 12 blocks are the most by a Catamount since Jewel Small had 17 in the 2019-20 campaign. 
  • Marshall has 202 points this season and is seven points from besting her 2020-21 seasonal total of 208.
