Catamounts Fall to ETSU Saturday

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – Western Carolina women's basketball fell on the road at ETSU 68-45 Saturday at Brooks Gym. 
 
Turning Point:
ETSU opened the game on a 9-0 run, never trailed in the game, and drained 12 three-pointers in the game. 
 
 Individual Leaders
  • Joi Reid led the team with nine points. 
  • Tembre Moates came off the bench to score eight points and rip down eight rebounds. 
  • ETSU's Amaya Adams, Courtney Moore, and Sarah Thompson each had 10 points. 
 
 Inside the Box Score
  • Western Carolina scored just 16 points in the first half including five points in the second quarter. 
  • ETSU scored 20 of its 68 points in the first quarter. 
  • After committing only eight turnovers against Chattanooga, on Jan. 20, the Catamounts doubled that amount with 16 at ETSU. The Buccaneers turned the Catamount turnovers into 16 points. 
  • The Catamounts won the rebound battle ripping down 33 to ETSU's 28. 
  • WCU shot 30.2 percent from the field and just 14.2 percent in the second quarter. 
  • The Catamounts did win the fourth quarter outscoring ETSU 16-12. 
 
 News & Notes
  • ETSU's win over Western Carolina halted a 13-game losing streak for the Buccaneers. 
  • For just the second time this season Western Carolina failed to have a player score in double figures in a game. 
  • With 807 career points, Moates becomes just the third player, since the 2017-18, season to score 800 or more points in her career. The other two were Sherae Bonner (878 points, 2014-18) and Lauren LaPlant 834, 2016-21).
  • Bailey Trumm has hit two or more three-pointers in back-to-back games.
