CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Western Carolina track & field had one event win along with two top-five and six top-10 finishes Friday as Catamount student-athletes competed in Friday action at both the Brant Tolsma Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va. and the Carolina Challenge hosted by South Carolina in Columbia, S.C.

Makaila McIntyre led the Catamounts with a fourth-place finish in the women's long jump and a ninth-place result in the 200-meter dash. McIntyre's top leap of 5.90 meters (19'3.75") was one of seven that topped the previous meet record of 5.72 meters. She ran a season-best time in 200-meter dash of 25.74. Other Catamounts in action Friday included
Owen Barr (6.33 meters/20'7'') and
Azhar Tyson (6.17 meters/20'2") in the men's long jump as well as
Riley Center in the men's weight throw (12.64 meters/41'5").
Carolina Challenge Recap
The men's 4x400-meter relay team of
Michael Harris,
Marcus Brown,
David Miles, and
Tyler Manigault earned the win with a time of 3:19.22.
Marissa Blakely earned a sixth-place result in the women's 400-meter dash thanks to a season-best time of 58.30. Miles and Brown both recorded top-10 finishes in the men's 200-meter dash with Miles earning seventh thanks to a time of 27.08. Brown closely followed in eighth, crossing the finish line with a time of 27.08.
Saturday action at Brant Tolsma Invitational is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. while the Carolina Challenge resumes at Noon. Live results for both meets are available via links on catamountsports.com.
