Catamounts Wrap Up South Carolina Invitational with Solid Field & Relay Results

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Senior Makaila McIntyre earned two top-three finishes in field events to lead the Western Carolina indoor track & field teams at the South Carolina Invitational on Saturday held at the Carolina Indoor Track & Field Complex.

McIntyre finished as the runner-up in the women's long jump invite with a leap of 5.71 meters (18'9"). She was the top finishing collegiate athlete in the event, bested only by a professional who was competing unattached. Later in the day, McIntyre picked up her second top-five of the day with a third-place finish in the women's triple jump invite thanks to a mark of 12.22 meters (40'1.25").

In the invite portion of the women's weight throw, Victoria Solheim placed fifth with a top throw of 15.80 meters (51'10").

Competing in the women's triple jump invite, Omare McBride earned a seventh-place result with a top distance of 11.81 meters (38'9").

In the final event of the meet, the women's 4x400-meter relay team consisting of Marissa Blakely, Mikayla Turner, McIntyre, and Armani Blair finished ninth with a finishing time of 4:02.77.

For the men's team, Thomas Martin tied for sixth in the men's pole vault, clearing a height of 4.40 meters (14'5.25").

The quartet of Justin Hayes, Trevor Bone, Will Mitchell, and Drew Zink teamed up to finish seventh in the men's distance medley relay with a time of 10:19.20.

Charles Cooley competed in the men's pole vault elite division and finished in eighth place. Cooley topped out at a height of 4.66 meters (15'3.5").

Jalen Elwell finished 10th in the men's 800-meter run, completing the race in a personal best 1:54.47.

The men's 4x400-meter relay team of David Miles, Marcus Brown, Kevin Haley, Jr., and Zae Smith earned a 10th-place result thanks to their time of 3:19.48.

WCU is off next weekend before heading to the VMI Winter Classic on Feb. 11-12 at the Corps Physical Training Center in Lexington, Va.
